Food along River Valley Rd

There are some pretty good food along River Valley Rd, probably I wouldn't have known they exist had I not been working near there.

There is Boon Tong Kee Chicken Rice. It is already famous enough... expensive chicken rice but I guess it is good and tasty enough to warrant it. Where else do you get pryamid shaped chicken rice, which is not excessively oily , fragrant and in tiny portion?

I'd seen people taking pics of their signboard. But I can't bring myself to do it. It is too touristy and freaky for a local to do that. Hurhur.I prefer the roasted chicken cause the skin is so crispy and fragrant. It doesnt have slabs of fats under neath it- just the way i like.
We ordered the grilled prawn with cheese just to shut the trap of the waitress who couldnt take no for an answer and who couldnt stop up-selling. it tasted real good. cheese oozzing and piping hot.

Next to Boon Tong Kee, there is a teochew restaurant called erm, Teochew Crusine Restaurant. How imaginative. They were featured on CH8 before, happy to say, this recommendation was well given.
For starters, they serve us carrot cake, warm, springy and spicy ! It doesnt look very impressive... so never judge a book by its cover. I gobbled almost all of it, leaving poor bf to finish the smaller bits. LOL.

This is fried squid with prawn paste. It smells like they just roasted it in their kitchen. I would say, it smells better than its taste. I had envisioned the dish to be in calamari style, so it was a surprise to see chunky pieces of squid. All the chewing is tiring to the jaws. Still, worth a try.

My fav sam lui hor fun~. The portion is big, the fish is fresh, the hor fun is stirred fried with aromatic aftertaste. I'd take sam lui hor fun over seafood horfun anyday.

And if you need desert, walk down to Valley Point's Ice Cream Gallery. They serve handmade icecream with fresh ingredients.

Magmum Gold isnt the only choice if you want a taste of sea salt caramel. I'd nvr like caramel but Ice Cream Gallery's version of sea salt caramel with almonds is something I would order again and again. It really IS gold colour, as the pic below can illustrate.
Next to it. the brown blob of ice cream is Chocolate with Marshmallows. A sweet name no doubt, but they combine dark chocolate with tiny bits of marshmallows. A chewy hint of sweetness among the bitter ice cream is clever touch.

And yes, after HK and all my foodie places, I'm not as skinny as before. erm. I am not fat, just not so skinny anymore and I wanna be skinny. (if not, what will happen to all my clothes?!)

Freak accidents happen and I wonder what did those people do to deserve what they get?? ( cause I think I am a believer in karma, eh sometimes). I mean, get killed by falling trees when you are safely in a car? And people worries about car accidents on the other hand. Or getting smashed to death in a bus? By a crane? Which could have been prevented had he selected another seat.

It is so easy to comment about stuff in hindsight... but I truly believe what is meant to happen will happen. Tht is just meant to be. no matter how tragic/unfair/stupid. Who can you blame except yourself?

chihuahua

i nvr would have thought this would be happening but... my brother is gonna bring home a pet.

a chihuahua!!!!

gawd.

i wonder how my mother is gonna cope since she is anti-peys and she couldn't stop yelling at him to not bring it home. or to return his purchase. hmmm.; it is gonna be interesting!

A VERY Hot Summer Holiday

I spent 8 hot, summer days in Hong Kong and went to the nearby islands as well. My best memories were of the food. heehee. Didnt have cash to blow off, so despite branded stuff being on sale... all i bought back was unbranded stuff. erm, except h&m, but that dont really count.

Hongkong people have a faster stride than Singaporeans. I can feel it when we are walking amongst them in train stations. I feel that they have really good service attitude as well.

Some highlights of the trip

1- Mido cafe. I cant get over how goood the fresh toast tasted.

2) Disneyland was so small that we could cover everything in one day with time to spare. Good planning with the fast pass. hurhurhurhur. A ride in Mad Hatter's Tea Cups always managed to make feel like a kid. Fun :)

3) Even though the waffles look cheesy or erm, mousy... it really tasted very good. I wolfed down mickey in about 4 bites.

4) We were at Macau's highest point. Floors were made of glass, so you get a morbid feeling of free falling. at first, anyway.
The architecture of Macau is simply gorgeous thanks to the Portugese influence.

5) We are on our way via the cable ride, to see the Buddha at Nongpong Village/Lantau Island.

It was so tiring just looking at the hundreds of steps... And I didnt buy anything at Citygate outlet malls. I am just too budget for those branded stuff (even after discount)!

6) We made it to the Victoria's Peak. One of the world's most expensive address. Yup, I can see why.

7) The view outside the Star Ferry (A tourist attraction in itself).

Same piece of land, at different time of the day...

7) Ocean Park is more suitable for adults like us! But it gets damm tiring and there is little seats for you to rest your legs unlike disney. But it is a beautiful place still.

had a taste of what a hot air balloon ride is all about. While queueing, our queue was cut by a China couple. They were so disgusting to try to cut about 30 people in front of them.
Luckily they nvr made it cause apparently their tour group is leaving before they are anywhere next in line to the ride. There really is no use arguing with them. Most people would rather let them cut queue than waste their breathe on them.

8) Caught in a tourist trap at Shenzhen thanks to a security guard. Guess i subconsciously tend to trust people in uniform. Saw people spitting loudly and openly at public places. it was so annoying.
The original intention is to sightsee at Windows of The World outdoor park and then continue to shop at Lo Hu. But as I felt so sad at being ripped off, I didnt had any mood to shop.
We only spent on food and transport at Shenzhen!Refused to contribute to their economy anymore!
The ice musuem was a relief from the heat...
This is me and the hercules statue.

9) Prefer HongKong after all the nearby islands which I had visited. I wouldn't hesitate to go there again!:) (but not shenzhen ever again).
I bought so much stuff that the paper-plastic carrier that I had tore! Luckily it only tore after I reach Spore.

confirmation letter

i've got my confirmation letter.... after a day when i discovred i screwed something up. what is it abt this company that i tend to have miscommunication. why dont i understand their meaning in its originality??? losing confidence in myself cause i've got bad memory, misunderstand people and cant remember a thing abt it. erm...

ArgH.

in any case, i am officially on leave the moment i've got my letter! the perfect time to recharge and face whatever shit i gootta face in the CV office.

it is the first time i will be on leave for 2 weeks. didnt have so many leave at the previous workplace. but then again, i wasnt counting to be here at the first place. sigh. you nvr know what life has in store for you.

anywayzzzz.... i consciously do not want to structure my trip to HK, Macau and Shenzhen. I DO NOT HAVE an iternary. but i will be bringing a guide book to read. (if i can find one in the library in the first place).

i've dyed my hair auburn/ dark purple and totally stained my nails purple in the process.
